When a family enrolls in Mother of Divine Grace School, they are assigned an educational consultant. These consultants have years of distance education experience, and they know the MODG program very well. They provide parents with the support and guidance that they need to homeschool well. For these veteran homeschool parents, being a consultant is more than a job. It is a vocation.

Why do they feel called to be a consultant, and what do they love about it?

We asked, and they answered:

  • It's simple - the families. The families I work with inspire me to live out my vocation as faithfully as they are.
  • I love being able to help families, even in a small way, to feel like homeschooling is something that they can do. I want them to know that even when life makes things complicated, they are still able to give their children a quality education.
  • There are so many reasons I love being a MODG consultant. My own amazing consultants were instrumental in helping me to feel confident teaching my own children through high school, and I am honored to provide that service for others. When I consider MODG’s long-term goals for our graduates to become active, life-long learners, effective communicators both verbally and in writing, independent thinkers, and multifaceted individuals, I am humbled to help families work toward those goals as I did with my own children.
  • Homeschooling is God’s work, and I love helping others do it! It’s great to be able to help build a culture of life and of the true, the good, and the beautiful.
  • I love being a consultant because I love the many blessings homeschooling has brought to our family, and it is such a joy to help other families share in those blessings. I love to hear a mom who was struggling say at the end of a consultation, "I feel so much better!" I want families to know that they can educate their children despite learning challenges, medical challenges, job loss, moving, extended family difficulties, and all of the other things that make life messy (even just a normal day when everyone is cranky and no one wants to work, and a major appliance picks that moment to break down!)
  • I love it because it's a work of love. It's so encouraging to hear moms living and loving their vocations! It's truly a blessing to be a part of their journey (even if it's from a distance).
  • Speaking to families who are making great sacrifices to homeschool is so inspiring. So many of these families are really making heroic sacrifices to do what they have discerned God is calling them to do. I love getting the opportunity to encourage them in their efforts and remind them to step back and see their vocation in this work when they are discouraged and mired in the day-to-day struggles of just trying to get all the boxes checked! I come away from those conversations humbled and grateful for the opportunity to share, even in a small way, in their journey.
  • I consult because I want to support those in the trenches doing God’s counter-cultural work within the hidden space of their family life. What these parents are doing is so important. Here, there are no public accolades, no “at-a-girl’s.” There is no glamor and very little public appeal to grow up to be a tired homeschool mom. However, as a consultant I see her work and successes. I am able to say, “Amen Sister, it is hard and it can be lonely, but what you are doing will ripple God’s love and life out into your home, descendants, and into the culture in general. No other work has this kind of impact for eternal good and fruitfulness. I am here to cheer Mom on and support her - Persevere!
  • My families inspire me. I love that we share common goals: to help our children get to Heaven and to educate them well. It is refreshing to know that we share these common ends.
  • I love being a MODG consultant because it allows me the privilege of being able to give back to my families, what my consultant gave to me and my husband: the support, affirmation, and encouragement to follow our vocation as the primary educators of our children, and to create a living Catholic culture in our home. Home education is counter-cultural and heroic: especially today. I want to provide friendship and assistance to my families in helping them fulfill their beautiful vocations.
  • I love being a consultant because I love the families I work with. Some of my families have all their ducks in a row, others are scattered, and some are shell-shocked that they're actually homeschooling. They have varying degrees of need, faith, resources, and energy. I'm always motivated to pray more, work harder, and be a better person after each consultation. Consulting stretches me as a whole person.
  • I love helping moms who have children who struggle (and thus she often fights a child who does not love to learn!) since these moms need so much love and encouragement. I love helping mom come up with a plan and giving her hope.
  • I'm a new consultant, but I loved the idea of being a consultant and helping other families achieve their goals because I have been so blessed by my consultant over the years. I pray that I can bless my families and encourage them just as my consultant has done for me. Consultants are the best part of MODG; they are truly a gift!
  • I enjoy explaining our methodology and content goals for the different stages of formation. When I first started homeschooling, I was so intimated by them. Having the goals patiently explained to me by my consultants helped me to gain confidence. I appreciate the opportunity to pass this understanding on.
  • I love being a MODG consultant because of the amazing families. Each one is so unique. It's a privilege to journey with them. MODG has been such a blessing to our family that I want to return that favour as much as possible to others. It's also very humbling to be a consultant. Sometimes I feel so inept for the task, but I know I have an awesome team (my mentor, my basic program manager, and other consultants) to help in any task that I feel is a challenge. I really enjoy giving back some of the support that I am receiving and have received over the years from MODG.
  • For me being a consultant is extremely rewarding. Being a part of my families’ homeschool journey is a privilege and an honor. I am humbled to share my own experiences and thoroughly enjoy planning for each individual child. I particularly enjoy helping those with struggling children as I have had children who struggle. Guiding a mum and showing her how her struggling child can achieve with MODG is really such an honor.
