The communion of saints could perhaps be understood as a roadmap guiding humanity toward its ultimate goal: perfect unity with its Creator. It deeply unites the faithful on Earth, in Heaven, and in Purgatory, strengthening and uplifting its members. Through the saints’ shared grace and example, we may understand what is needed to become holy and attain the eternal happiness we seek.

The communion of saints can be described as the profound and living unity of the Catholic Church in Heaven, Purgatory, and Earth, forming a unified body of the faithful under Christ. This community uplifts and strengthens us in three essential ways. It strengthens us on Earth through the sacraments, spiritual gifts, and opportunities for works of charity. It supports us spiritually through the prayers of its members for the departed souls in Purgatory. The saints, united with Christ, intercede for us and offer us models of holiness. These three dimensions reflect how every member is strengthened and uplifted through shared grace. This communion of shared grace could perhaps be understood as a spiritual roadmap for all, guiding humanity to its ultimate goal: perfect unity with its Creator.

Since the coming of Christ, all saints have shared one defining commonality: they embraced life with hearts entirely oriented toward God. Their sanctity did not come from extraordinary acts but from deep faithfulness in everyday life. St. Pier Giorgio Frassati and St. Carlo Acutis particularly embody this truth. Their sanctity did not come from astonishing miracles but from ordinary lives marked by studying, praying, helping others, and living joyfully, in contrast to modern society, which often drifts away from simple, virtuous ways of living toward distractions and superficial happiness. Their lives were directed toward God and filled with love and a deep longing for Him. Carlo used technology as a tool for evangelization, drawing people to Christ’s Church, while Frassati performed many acts of charity and lived life with contagious joy. Their witness invites the question of how young people today might live by their example.

For a young person living today, the path toward eternal happiness may begin with the realization that everyone is called to sanctity, regardless of age or circumstances. Through the wonderful examples of Carlo Acutis and Pier Giorgio Frassati, one can see how personal talents and gifts become instruments of evangelization and grace when offered to the Lord. Their lives illustrate that holiness is not reserved for a select few but is accessible through simple acts of everyday life. Carlo Acutis, for example, strove to pray the rosary every day; he also made resolutions for the Lord and the Blessed Virgin, offering them to help others. Another fundamental element in the lives of the saints is their devotion to prayer and the sacraments; it is crucial to reserve time for prayer and for receiving the sacraments, most importantly the Eucharist. By following the example of Carlo Acutis and Pier Giorgio Frassati, young people may walk the roadmap to eternity, growing ever closer to the Lord.

St. Carlo Acutis and St. Pier Giorgio Frassati, pray for us!
