Our Path to Success

Mother of Divine Grace School began in 1995 with the goal of supporting parents as they educate their children in a truly Catholic, classical program.

Thirty years later, our goal is the same.

Laura Berquist spent years educating her own six children at home, and Mother of Divine Grace School is one of the fruits of her efforts. Together with her husband, Marcus Berquist, Laura worked on a curriculum that would form the intellect and will of her students in order to help them make good judgments and develop virtue - an education that would teach students how to think, and ultimately prepare them for our final goal of seeing God face to face.

Her notes on her experiences formed the basis for talks at homeschooling conferences in the 90s, and eventually would turn into her first book, Designing Your Own Classical Curriculum. This book led Laura to establish MODG with the help of Laurel Springs School.

Since then, our vocation has been to help families fulfill a truly Catholic, classical education in their own homes. We are grateful for the support and dedication of our wonderful families over these last 30 years, and we look forward to the next 30 with confidence in God and in our Blessed Mother.

“All of our goals are ultimately ordered to the cultivation of wisdom and virtue by nourishing the soul on truth, goodness and beauty, so that, in Christ, the student is better able to know, glorify and enjoy God.”-Laura Berquist, MODG Founder

1993

DYOCC first published

Home educator Laura Berquist presents a curriculum based on the time-tested philosophy of the classical Trivium - grammar, logic and rhetoric. After ten years of homeschooling her own children, Laura was asked to present at a conference to talk about her experiences. The notes for this talk developed into Designing Your Own Classical Curriculum. Since then, this text has continued to shape thousands of homeschools.

1995

MODG founded

We were established as a Catholic school within Laurel Springs School. In our first years, enrollment began with around 22 families and has grown into the robust community we have today: 10,270 lifetime families and over 10,000 alumni, across 26 countries.

1998

Teacher Services program starts

We want every one of our families to have the support they need to educate their children according to each child's unique needs. Teacher Services is a branch of supplemental help that provides parents with one-on-one tutoring for their student, set up in a schedule that works for them!

2000

First accreditation from WASC

Mother of Divine Grace School is a private school accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (ACS WASC). We maintain this accreditation with routine self-evaluation, peer review by WASC professionals, and reports to continue working towards improvement in every aspect.

2001

Special Services program starts

Special Services is a supplemental program available for families who have children with learning challenges. This program gives parents helpful tips and accommodations for supporting their children’s education. A Special Services consultant walks with the family to adapt our curriculum to their needs.

2003

Office database launches

As MODG continues to grow as a distance-learning school, the office database is an important tool for our team of teachers, consultants, and office staff to assist families more efficiently across states with school records, testing and more.

2007

Separation from Laurel Springs

This valuable partnership gave way to allow MODG to stand independently as our own school.

2008

LS program opens schoolwide

With a small trial period in 2003, which brought very positive feedback, Learning Support Classes were added as a supplemental program. The LS program offers families a tool to assist parents in the education of their children by providing more teaching time, accountability, group discussion and camaraderie. Our online classes led to huge growth for the school!

2008

First Annual Art Contest

Each spring, MODG hosts a student art contest! It is one of our students' favorite yearly traditions. Students from all grades submit a piece of artwork, and our panel of judges picks the winners and several honorable mentions. You can view years of beautiful artwork here!

2011

MODG publications starts

MODG began selling our paper syllabi in 2011, the first of many publications! Shortly after this our beloved Art Book series began in 2015, with the Preschool edition.

2014

Pope Leo XIII NHS chapter founded

Mother of Divine Grace School is pleased to be able to offer a chapter of the National Honor Society to our wonderful families. NHS members promise to continue to show leadership, provide service to their communities, and be an example of good character to those around them. More than two hundred of our 11th-12th Grade students are members of the Pope Leo XIII chapter!

2015

Online bookstore launches

The MODG Bookstore is proud to offer families a hub for the curriculum and resources they need for the school year, in addition to a rich variety of literature options for all grades.

2017

First in-person graduation

Since 2017, MODG has held a Baccalaureate Mass & Graduation Ceremony for the graduating class. These gatherings always provide a wonderful opportunity for the MODG community to gather together from places near and far to celebrate the accomplishments of our students. Each year we typically have 50-60 graduates participate, and that number rises every year!

2020

COVID growth

School closure during COVID, brought us a 40% increase in our student population in 2020. The year after that we saw a 10% increase and have maintained this since!

2025

30th Anniversary Gala

We are thrilled to have the opportunity to come together as a community to recognize our school's achievements and honor those who have tirelessly devoted their time towards furthering our mission from the very beginning. Thank you to our families for making this milestone possible. It is our honor to partner with you each and every day in our mission to help Catholic families raise their children in a living Catholic culture in their homes. May God bless you!
