Dear Friends,

“Now in these days God has spoken to us through His Son.” (Heb 1:12)

During Christmas time what comes to our minds is the gift of Jesus Christ sent to renew the world. It is through the Incarnation that we receive the fullness of revelation, for Jesus Christ is the perfect image of the Father and brings Him to us. For He sent His Son, the eternal Word, who enlightens all men, so that He might dwell among men and tell them of the innermost being of God. (Jn 1:1-18)

God did us this kindness because He wants us all to be with Him in heaven. For those of us who are homeschooling our children, this season reminds us that, “God wishes men to be born not only that they should live and fill the earth, but much more that they may be worshippers of God, that they may know Him and love Him and finally enjoy Him forever in heaven.” (Casti Connubii)

That is our goal. As parents, success will be seeing our children gathered around us in heaven. But we live in a time when that means choosing to live differently than the world would have us live. We have to form our children so that they will not see success as wealth, power, or worldly adulation. They have to be formed in the Truth. It is hard to do that without community and community support.

The most important thing for any community is to pray for one another, consistently. Next to that is providing good examples for one another, in love and charity. But we are also called to share our resources, as we can, to help one another.

I truly believe homeschooling is a great good, and a real help to families endeavoring to raise their children in a living Catholic culture. Our families think so, too. One mother wrote me this letter, particularly moved by her experience in MODG and grateful for the Financial Assistance that made her enrollment possible:

“It is at times like this that you become aware of how limited the English language can be when it comes to expressing gratitude. I don’t think there are words to convey how deeply and profoundly grateful we are as parents for the experience, love, dignity, and care that has been poured out upon our daughter and to us as parents by MODG.

“Our experience has been truly life altering. ...We watched our daughter thrive, grow in wisdom, dignity, and beauty over three amazing years. Words may be inadequate, but the sentiment and depth of feeling is not. To love others as you yourself have been loved by God is a deep theology and a life spent practicing that is a good life. MODG, its staff and benefactors truly live this.”

Homeschooling, like all good things, involves sacrifice. Most often homeschooling families are operating on a single income. These days, in this economy, that is really difficult. We hear regularly of families who tell us they will need to put their children in public school because they can’t afford to continue homeschooling. We don’t want that to be the reason they decide to stop homeschooling. We want to aid those families, and we are asking our community to help us help them.

There are many deserving charities that ask for your support, I know that. It is difficult to choose among so many. Nonetheless, I ask you for your help today because I think a gift to MODG to help us continue to help families is a good investment in our country and our Church. You will be helping other families, like you, to continue to form their children in the Truth.

As Fr. Patrick Rooney (MODG '11) said in his recent Mass of Thanksgiving while reflecting on the Presentation, “Parents today who choose to homeschool their children…are bringing their own children to God, and so they are walking the footsteps of Mary and Joseph.”

If you are able, please make a gift today to aid our mission. Your donations truly allow us to continue to do the work of the Lord.

Thank you for your support and prayers, and know of our prayers for you this Advent and Christmas season!

God bless,
