We were so pleased to have homeschooling dad and MODG Director of Advancement Christopher Sebastian join us for our Light of the Faith Webinar this month!
His topic of discussion was such an interesting one! Chris expanded on his previous SMART Goals talks & tied that into some literature conversations our community has been having in our parent classes. He focused on how many of the principles for forming habits can be seen in an engaging way in our favorite works of literature. He talked about how what we read influences what we become. This is precisely why we need to pick good literature for our children so they are exposed to the true and beautiful and formed to make good decisions. Additionally, Chris encouraged parents to read alongside their children so they can share in these discoveries.
He brought up several texts that have prominent lessons about habit formation including Lord of the Rings from which he drew the following thought:
“What we are trying to do is help our children establish deep roots in their formation and literary wanderings, so that whatever the “frost” might be, trials and tribulations, our faith and good moral conduct, are not something that are just completely dependent on being in our own homes and surrounded by the perfect circumstances, but they can weather a frost.”
MODG Communications Supervisor, Stephanie Sebastian, even shared her thoughts on discovering growth and the aspect of virtue in the classic Anne of Green Gables series. You won’t want to miss this episode!
