What a wonderful first episode of the 5th season of the Light of the Faith Series!
We kicked off this new season with our founder, Laura Berquist! Thank you to all those who joined us for this talk on “Classical Education in the Light of Prudence.”
In this episode, Laura focused on the role of the cardinal virtue, prudence, within classical education. Laura reveals to us the beauty of working towards cultivating this virtue within our homeschools. By doing so, we allow our Lord to guide us so that we are better equipped to educate our children with a mind ordered toward our highest end, eternal life with Him.
Classical education helps us achieve this goal. With this formation, our children are then able to acquire experiences of their own that foster the growth of prudence within their lives.
“Classical education is the education that will best prepare our children to develop prudence. It will help them both directly and indirectly. As I said, prudence starts with the universal truth in the intellect, but relies on particular experience to provide counsel, come to judgment, and finally command action in a particular situation.
Classical education, first, aims to teach universal truths by giving the student foundational principles in all the disciplines. Second, it gives students access to vicarious experience through the materials that it studies. And third, it encourages deliberative argument so that the student is habituated to a full consideration of the possibilities.”- Laura Berquist
It was truly a beautiful talk to motivate us all for this new school year. If you missed the live episode, you can watch the recording here!
